Obstetrics & Prenatal
Normal & High Risk Pregnancies
Pregnancy is one of the most important times in a woman's life. Having the proper care and knowledge is essential to a successful term and delivery of your baby. We provide full pregnancy care, from conception through delivery and even longer. Our experienced team can help you every step of the way on this incredible journey. We offer specialized care in family planning, prenatal care and delivery.
Prenatal care is crucial to your baby's healthy development. Regular doctor's visits are recommended and will allow for professional monitoring of your baby's health. A regular appointment should include checking the baby's heart rate and checking your blood pressure, urine and weight gain. Ultrasounds can be performed to visually check on the baby's development.
In addition to our general obstetrical services, we also provide care for high risk pregnancies, including women with pre-existing medical conditions, multiple births or abnormal pregnancies that carry an increased risk of complications. Our doctors strive to develop strong, trusting relationships with their patients to help them experience a smooth pregnancy.
Complications during pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes, premature birth and recurrent miscarriages can also be treated by our specialists. For these women, we provide frequent monitor exams and special delivery techniques to ensure a healthy pregnancy.
After developing a partnership with your doctor over nine months, you can work together to ensure a safe and successful delivery. It is important to choose a doctor you trust for this memorable journey.
Vaginal Birth After Cesarean
A woman who has previously delivered a child by Cesarean section (C-section) may be able to deliver her next child vaginally. This process, known as vaginal birth after Cesarean section, or VBAC, was not an option in the past. Once a woman delivered by C-section, all successive births were C-sections. Medical advancements and improvements in surgical methods have now made VBAC a safe and fairly common delivery procedure.
There are a number of reasons, including wanting to experience a vaginal delivery, for a patient to choose VBAC. Other advantages of VBAC over C-section may include:
- No abdominal surgery
- Shorter recovery period
- Fewer complications
- Less risk of infection
- Less blood loss
VBAC also benefits a woman planning to have several children. A woman who has undergone multiple C-sections may not be a good candidate for vaginal delivery because she has a greater chance of complications. However, a woman who has delivered only one child by C-section experiences fewer risks with each successive vaginal birth.
On-site Pelvic and OB Ultrasound
An ultrasound is an imaging technique that uses sound waves to produce images of the uterus that can be viewed on a monitor in the doctor's office. A gel is spread on the lower abdominal area and a handpiece is moved across the gelled area to produce the images. An ultrasound is most effective when performed on a full bladder. The procedure usually takes 30 to 60 minutes to perform.
This procedure is performed regularly throughout pregnancy in order to monitor the growth and development of the fetus, and can also identify the sex of the child and detect any birth defects or other major problems.
Infertility Evaluation and Treatment
Infertility tests are performed on the patient or couple in order to determine the source of infertility. Tests may also detect any conditions or abnormalities that may inhibit one or both partner's ability to conceive a child, or lead to birth defects or congenital disorders. The best candidates for infertility evaluation are:
- Couples who are in their mid-30s
- Couples who have not used birth control for six months
- Those who have been trying to conceive for at least a year
- Those with physical problems, such as erectile dysfunction
Infertility issues can be very sensitive, and therefore confidentiality is provided to patients who choose to undergo an infertility evaluation.
It is important for both partners to be tested in order to determine an accurate, complete evaluation of any potential fertility problems. Male infertility is a factor in about 45% of all infertility cases and requires a thorough investigation. Thanks to advances in fertility treatment methods, approximately 60% of couples treated for infertility are able to conceive.
We provide family planning to women who are interested in preventing, delaying or achieving a pregnancy.
Family planning services include counseling and education, preconception care, screening and laboratory tests.
